PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve gear for an internal combustion engine capable of increasing degree of freedom of cam drive in a valve gear driving a cam by using a plurality of motors. SOLUTION: An intake side motor 26#14 and an exhaust side motor 52#14 mechanically connected to an intake cam shaft 20#14 and an exhaust cam shaft 48#14 commonly used by #1 and #4 cylinders are provided respectively. An intake side motor 26#23 and an exhaust side motor 52#23 mechanically connected to an intake cam shaft 20#23 and an exhaust cam shaft 48#23 commonly used by #2 and #3 cylinders are provided respectively. A first clutch 44 for connecting the intake cam shaft 20#14 and the exhaust camshaft 48#14 is provided. A third clutch 60 for connecting the intake cam shaft 20#23 and the exhaust camshaft 48#23 is provided.
