<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an automatic return process of a rental item to which an RFID tag is attached for storing information to indicate that the item is in rental. <P>SOLUTION: Return limit information stored in an RFID tag attached to a rental item inserted in a slot is read by an RFID unit and obtained (S303). Based on the obtained return limit information, determination is made as to whether or not the return of the item is overdue (S304); if not (Y at S304), a return process for storing information indicating that the rental item has been returned in the RFID tag attached to the rental item is performed (S305); if yes (N at S304), a late fee is calculated based on the return limit information obtained and the user is urged to pay the late fee (S306-S307). An overdue process for enabling a settling part to settle the late fee is performed (S308).
