PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus improved in ease of reading of a copy of a watermark attached original revealed by copying. SOLUTION: When an image input section 110 reads an original with a watermark, a watermark detection section 120 extracts a coarse dots (watermark image) configuring a watermark revealed part from a read original image. Then a watermark elimination section 130 eliminates the coarse dots extracted by the watermark detection section 120 from the original image and extracts a document image. A watermark image correction section 140 shifts the watermark image with respect to the substantial original image by a prescribed amount so that the revealed part and characters or the like are not overlapped with each other to the utmost extent. Finally an image composite section 150 combines the watermark image shifted by the watermark image correction section 140 by the prescribed amount with the document image extracted by the watermark elimination section 130.
