PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily arrange a compression side damping valve and an extension side damping valve to a piston without enlarging the piston in a hydraulic shock absorber for raising a compression side damping force on the terminal end side of a compression stroke. SOLUTION: In the hydraulic shock absorber 10, a throttle valve 60 is arranged in a piston side oil chamber 38A in a cylinder 11, and the throttle valve 60 is resiliently supported on the terminal end side of the compression stroke of the piston 33 so as to be abutted to the piston 33 and pushed in, and throttles a compression side passage area communicating with a piston rod side oil chamber 38B from the piston side oil chamber 38A through a compression side flow passage 39.
