The camshaft has a base body (2) on which balancing weights (6-9) and cams (N1-N8) are mounted by axial dent. The body is composed of a tubular shaped part (2a) and a branch (2b) connected to the tubular shaped part by welding or friction welding. The branch presents a flange (3) on side opposite to the connection point. The tubular shaped part is closed on its end (4) by a sealing cap (11). Each weight is provided with a retaining zone and a zone with large mass. An independent claim is also included for a method for fabricating a function body that is axially embedded on shafts with different shapes as cams.
