<p>A positional information exchange device and a positional information exchange method that enable, between devices having different map databases, an exchange of accurate positional information by a simple construction and by transfer of a reduced amount of data. The positional information exchange device has a map database (6) having map information stored in it; information acquisition means (4) for acquiring, based on an instruction from the outside, waypoint information representing an exchange waypoint (8) at which positions from the map database are exchanged; information conversion means (3) for converting the acquired waypoint information to positional information (7) composed of peculiar-point information (10) representing a peculiar point commonly present in a plurality of map databases and of relevant information (9) representing a position relative to the peculiar point; and communication means (2) for transmitting waypoint exchange information (29) to the outside, the waypoint exchange information (29) containing the positional information obtained by the conversion. Further, the communication means receives waypoint exchange information from the outside, and the information exchange means specifies an exchange waypoint on a map database based on the waypoint information obtained by converting the positional information, contained in the waypoint exchange information received by the communication means, to the waypoint information.</p> |
