PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel phosphorus-containing alkadiene polymer useful as a flame retardant etc. SOLUTION: The phosphorus-containing alkadiene polymer comprises a structural unit of the formula: -[CHR<SP>1</SP>-CR<SP>2</SP>=CR<SP>3</SP>-CHR<SP>4</SP>]- [wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a hydrogen atom or linear hydrocarbon groups that are identical to or different from each other, or R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are groups that are coupled together to form a cyclic hydrocarbon group; and one of R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>is a hydrogen atom and the other is a group of the formula: -P(O)R<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP>(wherein R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>6</SP>are alkyl groups, aryl groups or aralkyl groups that are identical to or different from each other)].
