PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing in high yield a hydroxy group-containing copolymer of a hydrophilic hydroxy group-containing monomer and a hydrophobic monomer by suspension polymerization in an aqueous medium in a desired copolymerization ratio while suppressing mutual particles coagulation. SOLUTION: The method for producing the hydroxy group-containing copolymer comprises the process of dispersing, in the aqueous medium dissolved with a salt and added with a dispersion stabilizer, a mixture comprising ethylenically unsaturated monomers comprising the hydrophilic hydroxy group-containing monomer and the hydrophobic monomer, an organic solvent and a polymerization initiator followed by conducting a suspension polymerization.
