PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack and pinion type steering device which restraining steering delay in an early stage of steering, or restraining deterioration of conversion efficiency of an operating force and generation of noises. SOLUTION: This rack and pinion type steering device comprises a rack shaft 3, a pinion shaft 2 meshed with the rack shaft 3, a rack guide 4 biased toward the rack shaft 3, and a guide seat 5 installed between the rack guide 4 and the rack shaft 3. The guide seat 5 is provided to the rack guide 4 via an elastic member 9, and restriction means for restraining a displacement direction of the guide seat 5 relative to the rack guide 4 in a rack axial direction is provided.
