PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite roll for rolling, which can solve the problems in an outer layer material of a traditional high speed steel manufactured by centrifugal casting, and has excellent wear resistance, and in which an outer layer and an inner layer are perfectly welded. SOLUTION: The composite roll for rolling has the outer layerαcontaining over 4.5 to 9.0 mass% of C, over 0.1 to 3.5 mass% of Si, over 0.1 to 3.5 mass% of Mn, over 18.0 to 40.0 mass% of V, and the balance of Fe and unavoidable impurity elements; and has the inner layerγmetallically joined on the inside surface of the outer layerα, wherein the tensile strength of the portion between the outer layerαand the inner layerγis 400 MPa or higher.
