Disclosed herein is a ceramic comprising: at least two different metal oxides, the at least two different metal oxides comprising TiO<SUB>2 </SUB>and La<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3 </SUB>or TiO<SUB>2 </SUB>and BaO; less than 20% by weight SiO<SUB>2</SUB>; less than 20% by weight B<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>; and less than 40% by weight P<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>5</SUB>; the ceramic having a glass transition temperature, T<SUB>g</SUB>, and a crystallization onset temperature, T<SUB>x</SUB>, and the difference between T<SUB>g </SUB>and T<SUB>x </SUB>is at least 5K. The ceramic may comprise additional metal oxides. Also disclosed herein is a method of making an article using the ceramic; typically, the ceramic is heated above the T<SUB>g</SUB>, shaped, and then cooled.
