The invention relates to a passenger restraint system comprising an inflatable air bag (3) which is arranged in a vehicle seat (10) and is deployed, when triggered, at least partially in the direction of travel, on the side of the vehicle seat (10) facing the inside of the vehicle. In other forms of embodiment, the inflated air bag (3) comprises a main chamber (3a) and at least one additional chamber (3b) which is arranged adjacently to the side of the main chamber (3a) opposing the direction of travel and is fluidically connected to the main chamber (3a).
