A shock absorber and a method for controlling the same are provided to improve the sealing property by forming a plurality of oil discharge grooves and a stepped portion on one side of a spring guide. In a shock absorber, an inner tube is provided in the interior of one side of a body and a sponge and a rod cover is provided in the interior of the other side thereof. A piston rod is provided in the interior of the rod cover. A bumper head is provided at one end of the piston rod and a piston and a spring guide(8) is provided on the other side thereof. A spring is provided in the interior of the inner tube and on one side of the spring guide. A plurality of oil discharge grooves(8a) are formed at one end of the spring guide and a stepped portion(8b) is formed at one end of the peripheral surface of the spring guide. An inclined surface is formed on the outer peripheral surface of the piston. An extending portion is formed on one side of the inclined surface and at least one recess is formed on the other side thereof.
