<p>1364124 Continuous casting VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE AG 7 Dec 1971 [14 Dec 1970] 56839/71 Heading B3F A continuous casting is produced from a succession of melts in ladles, without interruption, using exchangeable tundishes 2, 14 each with a pouring spout 3 or 3<SP>1</SP> having when in use at least one outlet beneath the level 9 of melt in a watercooled mould 5; when it is required to replace the tundish 2, it is moved away (the worn spout 3 being broken off if necessary) and the level in the mould is lowered slowly to a position 17, Fig. 2, e.g. by reducing the withdrawal speed, while a fresh, empty and preheated tundish 14 is moved over the mould and lowered sufficiently for a stoppered casting ladle 1 to be moved above the tundish 14 to fill it (its outlet 4<SP>1</SP> not passing beneath the melt level 17 until melt is issuing from it, so that the molten casting core 8 cannot enter the spout 3<SP>1</SP> and solidify in it) and allowing the melt in the mould 5 to rise to the level 9. The casting spout 3 or 3<SP>1</SP> may be controlled by a stopper. It is closed at the bottom and has a number of outlets 4, horizontal or slanted up or down. The ladles 1 are carried on an arm horizontally slewable or on a carriage. The tundishes 2, 14 are moved by slewing-arms or carriages.</p> |
