Process and device for controlling the surface activation of plastic parts

Flame treatment is applied to a plastic surface to produce a required surface tension, e.g. to make it suitable for accepting lacquer. The process is controlled by measuring the temperature of the surface and holding it between maximum and minimum values by adjusting the gas/air ratio of the burner. The measurement can be made by thermography, e.g. by an infra-red camera or by temperature-indicating paint. An independent claim is included for an installation of a robotically controlled burner that is moved over the surface together with an infra-red camera.
