PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier for recording medium and an ink jet recorder in which recording image quality can be enhanced by shortening the time of recording work especially when recording of a medium having no margin at the lower end is included. SOLUTION: Before the lower end of a recording medium is separated from a feed roller 13 by a stage 50 for carrying the recording medium, the recording medium is carried together with the feed roller. Since a transition can be made smoothly from carriage of the recording medium by means of the feed roller to carriage of the recording medium by means of the stage, and vice versa, recording image quality can be enhanced over the entire surface of the recording medium including the lower end.
