METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CONTROLLING SECURITY CHANNEL IN EPON

A method and an apparatus for controlling a security channel in an EPON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network) are provided to accurately find a time to activate a security function of a transmitting unit with one message. A method for controlling a security channel in an EPON includes the steps of: allocating keys between an OLT(Optical Line Terminal) and an ONU(Optical Network Unit); transmitting the allocated keys to encryption modules(120T,120R) of the OLT and the ONU; activating the corresponding encryption module(120T) at a side that starts activating a security function among the OLT and the ONU by using the allocated keys; transmitting an encryption module information message including activating state information of the corresponding encryption module from a transmitting side(Tx) to a receiving side(Rx); and checking the activating state information of the encryption module(120R) at the receiving side(Rx), and activating the encryption module.
