Circuitry for and method of identifying counting errors in a position detection device

The arrangement has a counter and a comparator. The comparator compares an output signal (Z0, Z1) of the counter with a comparison signal that is derived from a base signal at a determination point (DP). The comparator outputs a counting error output signal if a determined relation exists between the output signal and the comparison signal. The comparison signal is produced in a comparison signal processing and selection unit. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining counting errors in a position measuring device.
