A method for providing 3-dimensional stereo image service based on DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), and a decoding apparatus and method for 3-dimensional stereo image service based on DMB are provided to offer a new MPEG-4 object descriptor for 3-dimensional stereo image service and provide vivid 3-dimensional stereo images to users. DMB service is defined through a data service component type, and the dimension of the DMB service is defined through a user application type. A reference image for a 3-dimensional image which is the object of service and 3-dimensional additional information are respectively allocated to different independent streams by using different object descriptors.
