A computer system is provided to reduce a manufacturing cost for making an image of an embedded OS(Operating System) and porting the image into an HDD(Hard Disk Drive), and implement an instant-on function by connecting with a peripheral device. A RAM(20) stores currently used data. An interface(40) is connected to an external device. The bootable peripheral device(50) is connected to the interface. An instant-on function key(71) selects the instant-on function for the peripheral device. The periodically device includes a flash memory(51) storing an instant-on OS(52) for performing the instant-on function for the peripheral device. A BIOS(Basic Input/Output System)(31) performs booting by loading the instant-on OS to the RAM by responding to selection of the instant-on function key in a power-off state. The instant-on OS includes the embedded OS for performing the instant-on function for the peripheral device and an application program.
