An apparatus and a method for forwarding a multicast packet of a fast router are provided to reduce the overall number of times of packet copying of a system, and enhance overall efficiency of the system including a switch fabric by making packet copy generated only at an output processor that substantially outputs a packet. An input terminal process(130) provides information about the protocol of an input packet and information about a transmission method. An output-side processor(140) determines whether to copy a packet or not according to the transmission type analyzed by the input-side processor(130), and transmits it. A switch fabric(120) electrically connects the input-side processor(130) and the output-side processor(140).
