A digital broadcasting receiver and a method of upgrading software of the digital broadcasting receiver are provided to download software of the most up-to-date version, display upgrade information on software selected by a user in detail, and execute the software selected by the user. A method of upgrading software of a digital broadcasting receiver includes a step of counting the number of previously stored software programs(S315), a step of determining whether the counted number is smaller than a predetermined allowable number(S320), a step of downloading software and upgrade information included in a received broadcasting signal and storing the downloaded software and the upgrade information with the previously stored software when the counted number is smaller than the predetermined allowable number(S325), a step of displaying the upgrade information(S340), and a step of executing one of the previously stored software and the downloaded software(S350).
