PROCESS FOR METHACRYLIC RESIN HAVING GOOD OPTICAL PROPERTIES

A method for preparing methacrylic resin is provided to produce methacrylic resin having excellent optical properties and good heat resistance under a stable condition by bulk polymerization. The method for preparing methacrylic resin comprises the steps of: putting a mixture obtained by adding 0.001-0.05 parts by weight of a radical initiator and 0.05-0.5 parts by weight of a sulfur-containing molecular weight controller to a monomer mixture consisting of 80-98 parts by weight of alkyl methacrylate and 2-20 parts by weight of alkyl acrylate, into a reactor to polymerize the monomers to polymerization rate of 45-70% at 120-160°C; putting the polymerized material into a heater to be further polymerized to polymerization rate of 45-70%; and putting the polymerized material into an extruder for devolatilization and extruding the polymerized material after removing the unreacted monomers.
