The changeover device for a universal milling machine comprises a swivel arm rotatably connected to the spindle stock, and which can be connected with the tool holder. The swivel arm is formed as a shearing link arm (2), and on its free end has a rotary connection (6) movable in a vertical plane. The bearing of the shearing arm (2) on the spindle stock (1) can be raised on its extended bearing pin via a stroke device (9). The removed counter holder (5) is fitted into its storage place on the spindle stock (1) by a quick clamping arrangement (8).
