GP n one associated with each load, the converters being triggered in staggered relationship to each other so that energy fed back by one load is absorbed by another load. The loads V 1 , V n may be windings of a motor or of the supporting and guide magnets of a magnetic suspension vehicle. Each D.C. pulse converter GP 1 ...GP n may comprise a bridge of two thyristors and two diodes (Fig. 2, not shown) or, two such bridges (Fig. 4, not shown) arranged to reverse the direction of current in the respective load. The battery B may be floating across a charger LG supplied by the mains N. The staggering of the triggering of the devices GP 1 ...GP n under control of a pulse generator C prevents deterioration of the battery B due to excessive regeneration current at the end of each pulse fed to the loads V 1 ...
