The finger ring is placed over the hardened steel bush mounted on the mandrel. A segmented ring consisting of six to twelve segments is fitted over the ring and held together by spring rings. The assembled housing and ring is then fitted into the recess in the end of a collet which forms the end of a hollow shaft. The shaft is mounted in a housing with a ring having a tapered bore fitting over the end. The shaft is pulled through the housing by a rack and pinion device forcing the colled end through the tapered bore and so reducing the dia. of the finger ring.
