A device for sensing opening/closing of a cover of an image forming apparatus is provided to improve the reliability of sensing an opening/closing operation of the cover and prevent components of the image forming apparatus from being damaged by an impact applied to the image forming apparatus when the cover is opened and closed. A device for sensing opening/closing of a cover(3) of an image forming apparatus includes a protected member(30), an elastic member(40), a contact unit(50), and a controller. The projected member is located on the inner side of the cover. The elastic member elastically supports the projected member downward. The contact unit includes contacts which come into contact with each other or are separated from each other according to movement of the projected member when the cover is opened and closed. The contact unit outputs a signal when the contacts come into contact with each other or are separated from each other according to movement of the projected member. The controller displays whether the cover is opened or closed on a display window according to the signal output from the contact unit.
