A system for reproducing a multimedia caption file is provided to automatically download a caption file corresponding to a multimedia file requested by a user through a network when the caption file does not exist in a multimedia player, and reproduce the multimedia file and the caption file together. A system for reproducing a multimedia caption file includes a user input unit(130) through which a specific multimedia file reproducing instruction is inputted, a multimedia play module(110), a controller(120), a caption file providing server(310), a caption file receiver(160), and an OSD(On Screen Display) processor(140). The multimedia play module reproduces a multimedia file selected through the user input unit and outputs the reproduced multimedia file as an image. The multimedia play module also reproduces a caption file having the same file as the multimedia file. When a caption file corresponding to the selected multimedia file does not exist, the controller requests the caption file to be downloaded through a network(200). The caption file providing server searches a caption file database(330) for the requested caption file and downloads the caption file through the network. The caption file receiver downloads the caption file from the caption file providing server. The OSD processor reproduces the multimedia file and the downloaded caption file together to provide caption information as an OSD image.
