A high quality digital television with a karaoke function is provided to display broadcasting data of a desired channel as a background while carrying out the karaoke function, and effectively process a memory part by making captions clear and storing the captions in a memory after compression. A high quality digital television with a karaoke function includes a display panel(14) for receiving high quality digital images, a high quality graphic processing part for displaying high quality images and captions for songs, a set-top box(11) incorporating an MPEG(Moving Picture Expert Group) decoder for receiving motion picture background, and HDTV(High Definition Television) strings, and a karaoke module(12) storing various accompaniment and still images and outputting the same via speakers in association with captions. A switching element(22) is to input various video/audio signals selectively. An ADC(Analogue/Digital Converter) and a video decoder(19) convert the video signals input via the switching element to high quality video signals. A deinterlacer(17) makes boundary portions of the images smooth and clear. A scaler(15) controls the various video signals to be displayed in various size and shape via the display panel. An audio processor(21) outputs the audio signals input from the karaoke module and the video decoder to desired output ports.
