A METHOD OF INCREASING THE NUMBER OF SUBSCRIBERS USING TIME DIVISION DUPLEXING TECHNOLOGY IN WDM/ETHERNET PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORK SYSTEM

A method for increasing the number of subscribers by using a TDD(Time Division Duplexing) technique in a WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing)/EPON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network) system is provided to minimize a downstream bandwidth loss by executing dynamic bandwidth allocation and a threshold adjustment mechanism through an OLT(Optical Line Terminal) scheduler and to maximize the efficiency of a network by providing smooth bidirectional communication. Each ONT(Optical Network Terminal) checks the amount of accumulated packets and reports a necessary bandwidth to the OLT. The OLT adds up the requested bandwidths and calculates the total request bandwidth. Then, the OLT compares the total request bandwidth with an ATWS(Available Total Window Size), and allocates a GRANT bandwidth to each ONT. The OLT sums up the allocated GRANT bandwidths and creates a GRANT subframe. The OLT performs scheduling for a data subframe and the GRANT subframe and creates a downstream Ethernet subframe.
