A connector with a protection against electrostatic charges accumulated in a mating connector is provided to electrically connect a connector to a ground contact before a mating connector comes into contact with a signal contact while the mating connector is fitted. A connector(10) includes a fitting part(11) fitted into a mating connector in a first direction(A1), a plurality of signal contacts(15) arranged in the fitting part in a first column extended to a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, a ground plate(16) having a plurality of ground terminals(16e) arranged in the fitting part in a second column parallel with the first column, and a housing(13) for holding the signal contacts and the ground plate. The connector further includes a conductive shell(14) combined with the housing, a shell body(14a,14b) for partially covering the signal contacts and the ground plate, a bent part(14c) formed at the end of the fitting part and bent from the shell body to the inside of the shell body, and a protection(14d) located in a third direction perpendicular to the first and second directions and extended from the bent part along the shell body. Each of the ground terminals includes a spring(16e1) extended to the fitting part along the shell body, and a free end(16e3) extended from the spring and inserted into a space between the protection and a bottom plate(14b) of the shell to come into contact with the protection.
