A method for transmitting and receiving messages and a mobile terminal thereof are provided to transmit a message to the other party without stopping voice call communication in case a user faces a situation impossible to proceed with a voice call or has contents difficult to express by voice during the voice call. A mobile terminal(100) comprises a controller(110), a memory(120), an RF transceiver part(130), an LCD part(140), and a key input part(150). If message transmission to the other side's terminal is requested in the middle of a voice call, the controller(110) controls the LCD part(140) so as to output a message input window. Then, if a user inputs a message through the key input part(150), the controller(110) controls the key input part(150) and the LCD part(140) so as to display the inputted message. The controller(110) controls the RF transceiver part(130) so as to transmit the inputted message in a packet switched scheme. In this case, it is desirable that the inputted message is transmitted after being encoded into a SIP(Session Initiation Protocol) message. |
