A method for analyzing a failure mechanism is provided to clearly define a description method of failure causes included in a cause mechanism on a failure mode mechanism diagram and easily reuse all failure mechanism information described in the failure mode mechanism diagram to a failure analysis of similar items. A failure mode library having the items, the failure causes, and a failure modes as menus, and having a logical casual relationship with the first failure mode mechanism diagram is constructed by converting the first failure mode mechanism diagram(104). The first failure mode mechanism diagram hierarchically displays the casual relationship among the items, the failure causes, and the failure mode of an analysis target. The failure mode of the other analysis target is searched from the failure mode library and the second failure mode mechanism diagram of the searched failure mode of the analysis target is automatically generated from the failure mode library(108).
