The floating breakwater unit comprises three or more rigid oblong members of any desired length, while their cross-section is of any desired dimensions and shape. One or more of the members (1) is fully buoyant, and sufficiently so to ensure that the complete unit remains afloat in calm water. The oblong members (2) are horizontal and parallel to each other, hinging together by any suitable means at two or more points along them by means of flexible or rigid distance pieces (4, 5) of any desired length. The complete-assembly is flexibly anchored at two or more points on each member to the sea, lake or river bed.
