Timing case (5) with a contact surface (5a) for mounting on a contact surface (1a) of an engine comprising a cylinder block (2) and a cylinder head (3) assembled together in an assembly plane (P23), where sealant (6) is applied to one or both contact surfaces, comprises a cavity in the timing case's contact surface at the level of the assembly plane. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine with a timing case as above.
