PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a luminaire capable of illuminating light uniformly from its illuminating surface as well as capable of reducing size, particularly, thickness. SOLUTION: This luminaire comprises: a case 12 having an electric component therein (not shown); a flat type discharge lamp 14 installed in a lower portion of the case; and a glove 13 which is arranged in nearly parallel to the light emitting surface 14' of the flat type discharge lamp 14 and locked to the case 12. Herein, the light emitting surface 14' of the flat type discharge lamp 14 and the inner surface of the glove 13 are arranged apart from each other with a predetermined spacing d.
