PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that foreign matter such as paper dust adhering to nozzles cannot be unerringly removed only by cleaning actions to suck an ink from a head. SOLUTION: The image forming device performs an idle discharge to discharge liquid droplets from the nozzles 104 by causing a pressure variation (expansion or contraction of the internal capacity of a liquid chamber) in a liquid chamber 106 by providing a maintenance driving waveform to the piezoelectric element 121 of a recording head 31 while performing head suction to suck an ink by operating a suction pump 211 with the nozzle surface 31a of the recording head 31 capped by a sucking cap 82a.
