<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-sulfur and low-phosphorus lubricating oil composition effective for remarkably decreasing abrasion. <P>SOLUTION: The low-sulfur and low-phosphorus lubricating oil composition contains (a) a major amount of oil having lubricating viscosity, (b) a dispersing agent, (c) an antioxidant and (d) a cleaner provided that the lubricating oil composition is principally free from zinc dialkyldithiophosphate, has a sulfur content of≤0.1 mass% and is free from alkylated and non-alkylated aromatic amines and trinuclear molybdenum compounds. The invention further provides a low-sulfur and low-phosphorus lubricating oil composition containing (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity, (b) a borated dispersing agent and a non-borated dispersing agent, (c) a molybdenum antioxidant and a phenolic antioxidant and (d) a high overbased and low overbased calcium sulfonate provided that the lubricating oil composition is principally free from zinc dialkyldithiophosphate, has a sulfur content of≤0.1 mass% and is free from alkylated and non-alkylated aromatic amines and trinuclear molybdenum compounds.
