PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing apparatus and a control method thereof, which are capable of improving the fixability by adjusting compressive forces of pressure rollers according to a kind of a recording medium and/or the density of a toner image or the like. SOLUTION: The fixing apparatus includes a heat roller 50, a plurality of pressure rollers 61 and 62 rotationally contacting the surface of the heat roller, and a compression unit for pressing the plurality of pressure rollers to the heat roller. The compressive forces with which the plurality of pressure rollers are pressed can be controlled in accordance with the kind of the recording medium and/or the image density.
