PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document image reader which improves durability of dirt-proof effect on a reading position while preventing generation of an abnormal image, and an image forming apparatus comprising the document image reader. SOLUTION: A document image reader comprises a separate feeding section 2 for separately feeding documents one by one from a document bundle set in a document set section 1, a conveyance means 3 for conveying the documents separated one by one by the separate feeding section 2; a guide means 4 for guiding the document to be conveyed by the conveyance means 3; a first reading section 5 for reading a first side of the document conveyed while being guided by the guide means 4, and a second reading section 6 for reading a second side of the document conveyed after being read by the first reading section 5, wherein a relative speed relationship of the conveyance means at an upstream side and a downstream side most proximate to a reading position (a) of the first reading section 5 becomes different from a relative speed relationship of the conveyance means 3 at an upstream side and a downstream side most proximate to a reading position (d) of the second reading section 6.
