PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogenated tetracyclododecene ring-opened polymer having a high solubility to a general solvent at a room temperature, a method for producing the same and an optical material by using the hydrogenated ring-opened polymer as a component. SOLUTION: This hydrogenated tetracyclododecene ring-opened polymer is provided by containing (A) 55-100 mol% recurring unit originated from tetracyclododecene based on the total of the recurring units and (B) 0-45 mol% recurring unit originated from another norbornene compound based on the total recurring units, and showing <1% non-soluble fraction based on the total amount of the hydrogenated ring-opened polymer on trying to dissolve it by an amount becoming 5 wt.% on dissolving completely with 1 kind of an organic solvent selected from cyclohexane, toluene, chloroform and tetrahydrofuran at 20°C, and having 1,000-500,000 weight-average molecular weight.
