The present invention relates to a controller (500) for controlling an optical pick up unit (400), the optical pick up unit (400) comprising a first light source (100) for recording data on a data area (200) of an optical recording medium (250) and for recording a visible label (230) on a label area (280) of the optical recording medium (250), a second light source (110) for recording the visible label (230), wherein the controller (500) is being arranged to control the optical pick up unit (400) in a manner that the first light source (100) and the second light source (110) at least partly record the visible label (230) simultaneously. This is useful in all optical drives such as CD, DVD, Blu-ray drives that support visible label recording functionality.
