摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus for improving a response speed for a returning operation from an energy saving mode; and to provide an image forming apparatus, an image reading method, and an image reading program. <P>SOLUTION: A main controller 20 requests a reading unit 50 to shift to an energy saving mode. Upon receipt of the request, the reading unit 50 moves a carriage 61 to the position of a white standard board (b). When the movement of the carriage 61 to the position of the white standard board (b) is completed, the reading unit 50 notifies the main controller 20 the fact that the shift to the energy saving mode is ready. Upon receipt of the notification that the shift to the energy saving mode is ready from the reading unit 50, the main controller 20 stops supply of power to the reading unit 50. Then, AGC processing (white level correction and black level correction) is executed immediately when returning from the energy saving mode is done.
