PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide member for fishing line and a method for producing the same, which provides a function for reducing friction with the line and absorbing frictional heat with the guide to reduce the thermal damage of the line, resistance to mechanical impact, and excellent processability when produced. SOLUTION: This guide member for the fishing line comprises a metal substrate having a heat permeability of≥1.70×10<SP>4</SP>J/Km<SP>2</SP>s<SP>0.5</SP>and a surface coating film consisting mainly of nickel or carbon. It is desirable that the temperature diffusion coefficient of the metal substrate is≥6.30×10<SP>-5</SP>m<SP>2</SP>/s. It is desirable that the guide member has nickel, zinc, tin, titanium or an alloy consisting mainly of their mixture as an intermediate layer and having a thickness of≤0.5μm between the metal substrate and the surface coating film. It is desirable that the metal substrate is copper, aluminum, zinc or an alloy consisting mainly of their mixture. It is desirable that the surface coating film is diamond-like carbon.
