<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of avoiding inconvenience due to staining occurring after pattern for a process computer as a pattern for detecting density shift is formed. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus which forms a toner image formed by an image forming process by an electrophotographic system on an intermediate transfer belt and transfers the toner image to a transfer medium, to output an image is provided with a toner pattern forming section which forms a density detecting toner pattern which comprises patches different stepwise in density which are obtained by changing a bias and is for performing a feedback adjustment for the density shift and a blade peeling preventing toner pattern (B) for maintaining the performance of a cleaning means cleaning the intermediate transfer belt, thereon. The toner pattern forming section forms the density detecting toner pattern and after that, forms the blade peeling preventing pattern. The blade peeling preventing pattern (B) is formed after pattern for a process computer (A). The blade peeling preventing pattern prevents the peeling of the blade by adhering a constant amount of toner to the cleaning blade of a transfer belt cleaning device 20, to suppress the increase of the friction between the blade and the intermediate transfer belt 18.
