<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which embodies a reflective mode through a transmission type liquid crystal display device and to provide a method of driving the same. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes a first substrate 100 where pixel regions, pixel electrodes 120 formed on the pixel regions, thin film transistors T, and storage capacitors Cst are formed, a second substrate 200 which has color filters 220 and black matrices 210 formed corresponding to the respective pixel regions, and opened regions provided to the black matrices 210 and also has a transparent common electrode 230 formed on the color filters 220 and black matrices 210, and a liquid crystal layer 300 formed between the first substrate 100 and second substrate 200.
