<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle kind identification apparatus preventing illegal use of ETC on-vehicle equipment without obstructing traffic at toll gates. <P>SOLUTION: When the vehicle kind identification apparatus identifies the kind of vehicle, a different vehicle kind identification logic that matches an existing fare collection system or an ETC system is used depending on whether the destination of vehicle kind identification result information is the existing fare collection system or the ETC system.
