PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crown retainer for a ball bearing, which can prevent the deformation and fatigue fracture in a pocket even when loaded with a large moment, and can prevent the vibration and wearing, etc., with low costs without enlarging the play amount of a ball in the pocket. SOLUTION: The annular crown retainer 20 for the ball bearing is provided with the pocket 21 to freely turnably retain a plurality of balls 6 of the ball bearing 1 at a predetermined interval in the circumference, comprised of a pair of pawls 22 at both circumferential ends of the pocket 21, as well as comprised of an opening 23 opening in the axial direction across a pair of the pawls 22. A groove 26 is circumferentially formed in the axial end surface at the pawl 22 side to demarcate a wall 24 at inside diameter side and a wall 26 at the outside diameter side.
