PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an oligomer ester that provides moisture by a sufficient water retention ability, does not have a problem of feel, is readily formulated with a cosmetic and an external preparation for skin comprising water as a medium and has high safety, an cosmetic and a external preparation for skin, which contains the oligomer ester and a cosmetic and an skin care preparation, which has high moisture retaining function, excellent feel and safety. SOLUTION: The oligomer ester is synthesized from (A) one or more kinds of bifunctional carboxylic acids containing a 6-22C straight-chain, branched-chain or cyclic structure and (B) a polyglycerin having an average polymerization degree calculated from a hydroxy value of 2-15.
