PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waste material treatment method which efficiently removes, at a low cost, tar, light oil, char and an organic chlorine compound such as dioxin which are contained in gas obtained by the heating and carbonization of organic waste material such as biomass and plans the useful application of carbide obtained by the heating and carbonization, and also provide a waste material treatment device. SOLUTION: In an adsorption tower 2, tar, light oil, char and an organic chlorine compound contained in gas obtained from a carbonization furnace 1, which heats and carbonizes organic waste material, is made to be contacted with and adsorbed to carbide obtained from the carbonization furnace 1.
